ARTIFICIAL COAST II

Photographic documentation of a thirty-day beach cleaning project. Between March and April 2022, I combed Gyllyngvase Beach every day for thirty days to remove trash, plastic, and other debris littering this natural environment. Like many Cornish beaches, Falmouth’s Gyllyngvase Beach also suffers from plastic pollution and the effects of mass consumerism.

In this personal experiment, I discover the strange, surprising, and fascinating things that can be found across Falmouth’s most popular beach. Throughout this process of observing the landscape, uncovering seaweed, and sieving through rockpools, I realised that even the recognised clean beaches are never truly pristine and litter-free...
